For decades I’ve been an effective English teacher in Florida’s classrooms, confident about what I was teaching and certain that my efforts were guiding students toward success. I steered many students toward a collegiate, academic future, not grasping the extent to which I left them ill prepared to navigate the emotional struggles of life amid always changing circumstances.
